BIKES, BLUES, & BBQ

The BBB rally has raised more than $1.5 million for some 40 different local charities since its inception at the turn of the millennium, according to organizers. The giving continues for the 18th edition, held in the northern Arkansas college party town of Fayetteville, but known for it’s rides into the scenic Ozark Mountains. Activities include factory demos, countless vendors, H.O.G. registration, beer gardens, live music, lawn mower pulls, Firefighters’ Poker Run, Miss BBB Contest, bike parade, classic car show, the Monster Energy Experience, the Battle of the Bikes custom bike show and, of course, the People’s Choice Arkansas State BBQ Championship. Chow down, ride up to the mountains.

LAS VEGAS BIKE FEST

“Bright lights and big bikes” is our tagline for this growing event, attracting approximately 40,000 enthusiasts as it enters its 17th year. Las Vegas BikeFest has changed local venues in recent years and now seems to have found a suitable home on Fremont Street in Sin City’s old downtown area. It is a sea of neon, non-stop activity and classic casinos, often seen in TV and film clips. Uncle Kracker is the headliner while local bands will perform throughout the four-day event. BikeFest will feature the Artistry in Iron Master Builders Championship, factory demo rides, Bikini Contest, Run to Pioneer Poker Run, motorcycle giveaway, custom bike show, Baddest Bagger contest, biker bingo, best facial hair contest, wet T-shirt contest, a poker walk, Miss & Mr Las Vegas BikeFest contests, and a tattoo expo. More than 200 vendors are expected.

NEW ORLEANS BIKE WEEK

The second New Orleans Bike Week is off to a shaky start. Organizers announced dates in February but no other information is available at press time. Their website is presently down but their Facebook page declares the event will go on and is set for October 27-29, just in time for Halloween and the Voodoo Experience festival. Please check back for updates.

LONE STAR RALLY

The Gulf Coast resort town of Galveston will turn into “biker island” the first week of November. The city is known for Moody Gardens and its glass pyramids, home to sharks, monkeys and the other animals who wear hide. The Historic Pleasure Pier is a popular amusement and the island’s west side is where to go for hiking, kayaking, fishing and even bird watching. But we’re not here for any of that. We’re here to party. The Lone Star Rally will fill Galveston Island with the rumble of thousands of motorcycles and the laughter of bikers gone wild, or at least having a lot of good fun. The rally will host bikes games; the Run Down the Shore; a master builder custom bike show; tattoo expo; poker run and scavenger hunt; Dave Perewitz Paint Show (planned); Outlaw Dave’s Ranch Ride (planned); Baddest Bagger Show; factory demo rides; motorcycle giveaway; truck and classic car show; a sea of vendors offering everything a rider can bolt on, wear or munch on; the wildly popular search for the new Miss Lone Star Rally; and, of course, bands performing day and night at Saengerfest Park and Beach Central Park. Loverboy and Uncle Kracker performed before, but this year’s headliners are yet to be determined.
